Ikea College Event

summary

The Ikea College events were aimed at promoting Ikea’s dorm furniture. My team and I were given the opportunity to visualize these events in 3D space before fabrication.

The main attraction was the magnetic claw machine, where attendees could win prizes and gift cards up to $500.

Process

My team and I were given the opportunity to visualize the design of the main attraction, Ikea’s magnetic claw machine. I was specifically in charge of creating the control panel and prize chute.

To start, we were given a blueprint to translate into a 3D object. To ensure the correct measurements, I utilized grid-snapping and the distance tool in Maya.

The design for its visuals went through several weeks of different iterations before coming to this exact wrapping. For that reason, to cut down on work time and ensure a fast-turnaround time, material IDs and decals were created for the different pieces to quickly change color and material.
